Kinetic Sculpture of a biker in the Middle of Budapest, on the middle of the Danube.
This video has surfaced on the web a few days ago, and turned out to be a clever film trick. The idea however is very real. It’s the brain child of Zoltán Kecskeméti, a local programmer & graphic designer.
It took him two weeks of programming. As he was getting closer to the final outcome, it dawned on him, that this could well be a major spectacle… something that tourists would come to admire from all corners of Europe. And more importantly, it would be an excellent promotion for the biking lifestyle in Budapest.
The “inventor” is very motivated by the instant success. The loudest fans of the idea are the local Critical Mass participants. Every biker in town is very excited about this project, and loads of people are expecting the idea of the “pedaling bicyclist” to turn into reality.
Some hurdles will have to be tackled of course. Nobody is sure for example, if the river would have the power needed to move the legs of the huge scupltere. Water levels change a lot between spring and summer, so the whole sculpture should be able to move along with those changing levels.
But if the will and determination is strong enough, the welding can soon start.
